Five Pillars Bolster MOOYAH's Record Growth

By: Mary Avant

There’s no doubt that better-burger brand Mooyah Burgers, Fries & Shakes is making some big “moo-ves” in the industry. In the first half of the year alone, the chain experienced a 10 percent unit increase, while at the same time granting 26 additional franchises stateside and three internationally. A total of 16 units are slated to open by year’s end in states like Oklahoma, Arkansas, and New Jersey, bringing the brand’s store count to 70.
Although Mooyah has doubled in size each of the last several years, president and CEO Bill Spae will be the first to say that this rate of growth isn’t sustainable.

Mooyah Cooks Up a Tasty Marketing Strategy

By: Ryan Joe

Burger chains do not exactly exist in an uncompetitive market place. There are the ultra-convenient one-in-every-mall fast food joints like McDonald's and Burger King. And there are the sentimental, often regional, favorites like In-N-Out and Culver's.
For growing burger brands like Mooyah, the answer is customer engagement. The Plano, TX-based fast-casual chain currently has 49 restaurants nationally, and projects 60 over the course of the year spanning from coast to coast.
“We need CRM tools that let us speak to our guests often and test messaging,” says Mooyah Director of Marketing Alexis Barnett Gilette. The company has a specific focus: Most of its brand messaging caters to women and their families. Its recent strategies incorporate both email and mobile to drive engagement and traffic.

When franchising was born, most company names were simple and straightforward. Think McDonald’s and Burger King. Or ServiceMaster.
These brand names conveyed family feeling, or trust and authority. In some cases, they spelled out what the company did. They sought to offend no one and raise no hackles.
